Moon

She started out as a child performer, singing at her local church both in the choir and as a soloist, and playing violin and viola at school. She experimented with visual arts and crafts, off and on, throughout her childhood. In 8th grade, she was in her first play, a small one act, as the lead role.
During high school and college, Moon learned all the trades that are utilized in the theatrical world, from producer/director to gopher, from set design/construction to costumes and make-up.
Through her 20s she tried a variety of art genres, and participated in groups like the LIDA Project and the Zook Arts.
In 2000, she was introduced to festivals, specifically Dragonfest, and fell in love with helping organize (and eventually organizing) festivals and events.
From there she joined the Burning Man community in 2004 and stepped into a new way of thinking about art, and she hasn’t looked back.
Moon ran a large Burning Man theme camp in 2006, which taught her how to relax and go with the flow, even when it seems nothing will work right.
She went on to join OneTribe, where she learned the finer points of organizing events and collaborating with a collective.
Working with the GoG crew and then the Bomb Factory, she honed skills in transforming spaces according to the specifications of event organizers and creating art on a larger scale.
After a year break, she found the Phoenix Asylum and hung her tapestries on exhibit for the first time in an art show setting, the fit with the group was so good, she decided to join as a member with a space. In December 2009, she made another big step in life and married her sweetheart, Colonel Mustard.

On her own time, Moon works in acrylics as a painter and loves experimenting with UV reactive paints, she’s the lead vocalist in a 2 woman music project, has plans for learning how to weld in order to create the metal statues that haunt her visions, and is very slowly building an art car just for the heck of it. As a member of the Phoenix Asylum, she is one of our new artist liaisons for 2nd Fridays and tends to be the head of decor for our big events. If you’re wanting to find her, just go towards the blacklights under the loft and you’ll find yourself in her art space. (She’s the one with the blue dots tattoo on her forehead.)
